Suara 1946 - With Chief Eric Shove
![]() |
CPO Tel. Eric Shove and John Goldberg.
"Eric was a great chap, just completed his "twelve",and signed on for another ten. Well liked by all in the Party, he showed me the ropes with great good humour and tolerance, and taught me to drive on the Bedford 3 Tonner which is in the background. This vehicle was one of his pet "projects". It was the mechanical horse part of an articulated trailer. He had a frame body built on to it in the Dockyard, and got our on-site chippy to build sides, floor, seats etc. and it served us well as our unofficial transport. The only problem was that its hefty leaf springs weren't designed for light loads, so although being in the front passenger seat was tolerable, passengers in the back had their spines tested somewhat."
